The Arizona Child Support Guidelines follow the Income Shares Model which was developed by the National Center for State Courts and is widely used throughout the country. The total Child Support Guidelines amount approximates the amount that would have been spent on the children if the parents and children were living together.
The Child Support Guidelines amounts are calculated by using a formula which includes each parent’s gross income, any Spousal Maintenance paid and received, a credit for the medical insurance premiums paid for the children, a credit for child care costs paid, and a credit based on the number of days that each parent is parenting the children.
The Arizona Child Support Guidelines amount must be calculated for the Court but couples may choose to deviate from the Child Support Guidelines amount and select a higher or lower amount of child support that meets the needs of their family.
