One of my favorite stories is about newlyweds. The new wife is making a pot roast for the first time and cuts off a portion of the end of the meat. The new husband, asks why and the wife responds that it is the way her mother made it. A few weeks later they
are having dinner at the wife’s parent’s home and the new husband asks his mother in law why she cuts off a portion of the end of the meat and his mother in law responds that it the way her mother made it. A few weeks later the newlyweds are having dinner at the grandmother’s home and the new husband asks the grandmother why she cuts off a portion of the end of the meat. The grandmother responds that she does it because the pan is too small. What is the lesson for mediation? It is important to ask why something is being done or you may do something for the wrong reasons.
