I just upgraded to an iPhone 7. As I was experimenting with it, I tried out Google Translate. I had found this very useful in our recent trip to Germany and Russia. It occurred to me that it might be interesting to see what the words for divorce and mediation are in different languages. Following are some that I found.
Divorce – Danish skilsmisse, Esperanto – eksedzigo, French – divorce, German – scheidung, Hawaiian – oki, Irish – colscartha, Latin – repudium, Romanian – divort, Spanish – divorcio, and Swahili – talaka.
Mediation – Danish – mægling, Esperanto – mediacio, French – la mediation, German – vermittlung, Hawaiian – uao, Irish – idirghabháil, Latin – mediation, Romanian – mediere, Spanish – mediación, Swahili – upatanishi.
The process sounds better in some languages. Divorce in Hawaiian seems ok and in Latin repudiation is often what happens. Mediation in French almost sound like fun with la mediation and awful in German with vermittlung.
