When driving and doing something another driver does not understand, I see them get angry. They don’t understand that I am lost, or in the wrong lane or don’t want to make a turn because cars are coming in the other direction. I am not able to explain why I am doing something. On the other hand, when trying to edge into traffic, I can make eye contact with another driver and they let me in and don’t get angry. The lesson for mediation is people often get angry when they don’t understand or attribute the wrong motivation. Fortunately, in mediation we are better able to communicate and can overcome the rage.
