Telling your spouse you want a divore has always been difficult. I always think of the scene in the 1972 movie, Heartbreak Kid with Charles Grodin, Jeannie Berlin and Sybill Shepherd where the husband takes his soon to be ex-wife to a restaurant because he thinks she will not make a scene – she does.
An article in the New York Times entitled Want a Divorce? Try Cameo to Break the News by Sean Malin suggests a new way. “Cameo is a service that allows fans to pay celebrities between $1 and $2,500 (the average price is around $60) to send them video messages. Through the app, the general public can request shout-outs from entertainers. The service now allows people to tell their spouse they want a divorce.” Read the article at https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/12/style/want-a-divorce-try-cameo-to-break-the-news.html?referringSource=articleShare
The article does not say what the reaction of the spouse is. Hopefully, it is not like in the movie Heartbreak Kid! If you have children, we advise clients to discuss in advance what they are going to say and speak to the children together. Reassure the children that it is not their fault and that both parents will always be there for them.
