Driving around Tucson, I can’t help but seeing advertisements for attorneys. At least two are associated with animals. The attorneys represent themselves as tigers or eagles. Some divorce attorney say get a shark not a minnow. This made me ask myself what animal I would associate with a mediator? Golden retrievers came to mind. They are cheerful, trustworthy, adaptable, friendly, enthusiastic, and responsive. These are not the only qualities you want in a mediator but it is a good start. Compare golden retriever traits to the traits of a Mediator in recent post in Mediate.com by Sam Imperati that included the following: alertness, patience and tact, credibility, objectivity and self-control, adaptability, perseverance, appearance and demeanor, and initiative. Not all that different from a golden retriever.
